Plation Filter Casing Plation Water Filter FAQ’s

Q. How can I install a Plation In-line Filter?
A. Plation filters are designed to be installed at the point of use, usually close to the wash hand basin, sink or shower as possible. Installation is easy and a straightforward operation for any qualified plumber or competent DIY’er. Special brackets are available, as optional extras. See our online catalogue for more details. The filter uses standard metric screw plumbing connections but will require additional connection components to incorporate the filter into your fresh, potable water supply. You can download the install guide here as a pdf.>>>

Q. Where should the filter be placed?
A. Plation filters can be positioned anywhere between the potable water tank and the outlet taps. The most common, and easiest place for installation is likely to be close to the outlet tap, where there is a cupboard or wall on which to mount the filter and where piping is accessible. Make sure you allow adequate space for changing the filter. See the install guide >>>

Q. How often do I need to replace the filter?
A. Plation filters need to be replaced far less frequently than most standard carbon filter systems. Carbon filters absorb bacteria along with other contaminants. Although carbon has an enormous absorption capacity, it will eventually run out of space, giving bacteria the opportunity to grow. Plation’s silver antibacterial technology eliminates the potential for any bacterial growth and thereby increasing the capacity of the activated carbon filter. However, tank sizes as well as the quantities and quality of water being processed may vary the effective life span of the filtration and we therefore advise regular checks on water quality. Test kits are available from our online shop>>>

Q. Do I need to clean out the system with a chemical disinfectant when I change the filter?
A. In theory you should not have to chemically clean the system each time you change a Plation Filter or replace a Float. However, as a safeguard we advise you to chemically clean and flush out the system every time you change the filter and float. Fortunately you only need to do this every 2 years in the case of Plation Float changes, not every time you top up the tank.

How do I replace the filter cartridge?
Plation filter cartridges are contained in an outer casing, which simply screws off the main body of the filter.
1. Before removing and replacing the cartridge, close the inlet valve at the front of the filter and open the taps it is supplying, to drain any excess water and take off the pressure in the system.
2. Turn the outer casing, which holds the filter cartridge, at the base clockwise, screwing the casing away from the upper body of the filter. You will need an appropriate installation key to screw the holder on and off the main body of the filter. There are two sizes of installation keys, which are available from our online shop>>>
3. Remove the old cartridge and position its replacement into the holder. Make sure that the white gasket at the top of the cartridge is correctly positioned and that the black rubber ring is properly in place on the outer rim.
4.Screw the holder, containing the new filter cartridge, back onto the main body of the filter. Make sure it fits and is watertight before re-opening the in-flow valve.
5. A button at the top of the main body of the filter allows air out, which may cause an airlock. Press the button until you see water leaking here, indicating that water is now flowing freely. Allow water to flow out through the taps for 10 to 20 seconds and ensure there are no leakages from the filter. Download Plation installation and cartridge>>>

Q. Should I use both the Plation filters and Plation Floats?
A. You do not have to use both filters and floats but together they do provide optimum purification. With both you will not only have the stable purification of the freshwater tank, keeping bacteria at bay, but the added filtration of potential micro contaminant. The filter absorbs chlorine, pesticides and other organic and inorganic pollutants, improving taste by eliminating odours and discolouration. In some instances, such as Harvested Rainwater and larger systems where contaminates are more likely to enter the system, we would advise the installation of filters on all outlets and purification floats in potable, freshwater tanks. For more information on the application of Plation RainPC in Rainwater Harvesting systems.

Q. What difference should I notice in the water?
A. Water from a potable, freshwater storage tank can quickly build up bacterial growth, which can give the water a particularly unpleasant taste and odour. If you own a boat, barge or caravan with such a tank you may be familiar with the problem. Plation removes that smell and taste by filtering and by chemical free disinfectant, which simply eliminates the potential for bacterial growth. You will quickly notice the absence of any taste or odour from the water. If you are concerned check the quality of the water by running a simple test, using our test kit.

Q. What evidence is there that Silver works safely and effectively to eliminate bacteria?
A. Silver has been used for centuries and the Ancient Greek, Egyptian and Babylonian civilisations were aware of Silver’s properties. Today Silver is used in many instances to protect against infection. Blankets and bandages are just a couple of medical applications and washing machine manufacturers have also put silver into their products to eliminate bacterial growth.
