Installing Plation Inline filters is relatively simple and straight forward for a competent individual with the relevant DIY skills. However, we would always advise you consult a qualified plumber.
Cleaning Your Boat or Caravan's Pipe system
You should start by or cleaning pipe systems and tanks. They may have built up a substantial bio-film coating. You should replace any aging pipes or tanks where necessary.
System and tank cleaning can be done using standard safe chemical disinfection, such as described here...
-
1. Turn off and empty the system after cleaning and decide on the best place to install the filter.
-
2. The filter should positioned after the storage tank and pump and in a place best suited to deliver water to the shower and basins. It should be positioned on a suitable wall space or in a cupboard where it can be easily reached to replace the cartridge when necessary. Make sure there is no less than 10 cms clearance below the filter to ensure the removal and replacement of the cartridge.
-
3. Check that you have the right fittings needed to fix to the inlet and outlet pipes. Plation PIF filters use standard BSP screw fittings and mountings but vary in size depending on the size of filter.
-
4. Install the necessary pipe extensions to the place where you want to fit the filter. Or cut into an existing pipe section using an appropriate pipe cutter.
-
5. Having installed the pipe, or cut into an existing pipe, you can mark the position of the wall mount and the screw bolt holes. Each filter is delivered with a wall mounting bracket, which can be removed from the main body of the filter for easy installation.
-
6. Fix the filter onto the mount and attach the pipes. Make sure that the inlet and outlet flow is the right way round. NB. The water flow through the filter is marked in and out and is important for the filter to work properly.
-
7. Make sure the pipes are mounted properly and turn on the water. Open the necessary sink and shower taps and check for any leaks. Any air locks can be cleared from the system by turning the white screw valve at the top of the filter. You will notice some black carbon flowing from the taps. This will not last and the water will flow clear after about a minute, after which you filter is ready for use.
-
Your filter will deliver up to the amount of water for which it is designed:
PIF7500 after 7500 litres
PIF5000 after 15,000 litres
PIF50000 after 50,000 litres
PIF75000 after 75,000 litres
PIF150000 after 150,000 litres
However, we advise that you to change the filter after 2 years even if total amount of water has not been passed through the cartridge.
Replacement cartridges are available from our Waterstore at ...
-
To replace the cartridge shut off the water supply both sides of the filter, using the valve supplied wit the filter.
-
Remove the cartridge housing, using the spanner supplied with the filter, turning clockwise as shown here.
-
We advise that when changing the cartridge you take the opportunity to chemically clean out the tank and system.
To do so replace the cartridge housing, but without the cartridge. And if you have a Plation float remove this from the tank.
-
Clean the tank and system as instructed given by the chemical you are using and flush out the system to remove any chemical residues.
-
Shut off the water flow and remove the filter casing as before and place the new cartridge into the casing. Screw the housing, with the filter cartridge back onto the mounting. make sure the gasket is replaced (Fig.3)
-
Turn back on the water flow on both sides of the cartridge and unscrew the white valve at the top of the filter to allow any air locks to escape.
-
Open any taps on the system and allow the water to flow through the system. You will see some black excess carbon coming out of the taps. This wil only last about a minute and once the water runs clear the filter is ready for use.
