Sailors, at sea or on inland waterways, have always needed fresh drinking water on board. Proper storage is essential and modern techniques of stowage of potable water solve the problems of leakage and thereby potential contamination.
Stored water can quickly turn stale
The dark damp recesses of you water system and storage tank are the ideal environment for bacterial growth and biofilm build up. Refilling from a fresh, drinking water tap at a marina could also introduce bacteria and other contaminants. So regular cleaning and disinfection are an essential maintenance chore.
Keeping your water on board safe
Plation products, inline filters and floats are the ideal, simple solution to ensuring the water you use on board is clean, fresh and safe. In combination, floats and filters provide optimum purity and preservation of drinking water on board boats and barges.
Floats maintain the quality using specially hardened ceramic balls coated in colloidal silver. These are contained in plastic mesh packages which also contain balls of polystyrene to give the float bouyancey. As they float free in the the boat's fresh water tank they release silver ions into the water.
Silver is a widely used antibacterial agent. A safe non-chemical agent, which eliminates microbial contamination.
Filtration used as an add-on to the water system can provide the optimum water purification.
Activated carbon absorbs other possible contaminants, but does not eliminate them. So the same ceramic balls are also used in the filtration cartridge and eliminate bacterial growth build up in the carbon. This extends the active life of the cartridge as bacterial growth is stopped.
